Tell me about growing up and your experiences going to the dentist.
I loved going to the dentist and wanted to become a dentist at a very young age.

What was the deciding factor in you going to dental school?
For me, it was learning of the lack of access to quality dental care in underserved communities.

What did you most like learning about?
Cosmetic dentistry.

What advice would you have for anyone considering dental school and for someone in dental school now?
I would strongly encourage anyone with an interest in dentistry to go to dental school. Being a dentist is very rewarding both financially and emotionally. It provides you with the ability to serve others in your community, travel, and balance your working and personal life.

Why did you choose Wilmington?
I moved to Wilmington to be closer to the beach! I love living here.

How do you like to spend a day off?
I like to spend my days off with my husband and two daughters. We love to go to the boardwalk at Carolina Beach for donuts and ice cream.

Do you prefer TV or movies? What kinds of shows/movies do you like to watch?
I prefer to watch TV shows. I love comedy and I enjoy watching shows that make me laugh.

How do you start your work days?
I like to start my workdays with prayer and meditation. I like to focus on having a positive mindset and attitude.

What’s the most challenging part of your job?
The most challenging part of my job is meeting the demands and expectations of patients.

What do you wish everyone knew about being a dentist?

I wish everyone knew that dentists are teachers who can help guide patients into improving oral health, however, patients must take responsibility and ownership of their oral health status as well.

What has been the most rewarding experience of your dental career?
The most rewarding experience in my dental career was when I volunteered at a “Give Kids a Smile” free dental clinic. Many of the children were excited to receive dental care, which has been very limited in their communities.

What dental organizations are you a part of?
American Dental Association (ADA), American Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), and North Carolina Dental Society (NCDS).

What do you still hope to do/accomplish as a dentist?
My next goal as a dentist is to place and restore dental implants.
